Day two we head out for a 30km ride along the beautiful lower slopes of the volcano and through the local town for some in saddle sight seeing.

The circumnavigation of Mt. Kilimanjaro on bike starts the very next morning, so its an early bedtime for an early rise.

    3. Day 3 Bike Tour Moshi – Lake Chala

Day three we head out early for a round trip through the farmland and onto a long climb to the Marangu gate, which will be the trekking starting point a few days later to summit. From there we head back out through coffee and banana plantations for a visit to the game lodge at Lake Chala. Spend the afternoon swimming or head out for some game viewing on foot, before joining the group for dinner.

    4. Day 4 Bike Tour Lake Chala – Rongai

Day four is a leisurely ride around the volcano from the opposite direction with our route taking us close the the Kenyan Border and up into the reaches of the Mountain. We arrive at the mountain chalets for our evenings accommodation. Head out for a walk to get a sense of what the trek might entail, before dinner being served.

    5. Day 5 Bike tour Rongai – Olpopongi Masai Village

Day five we head out after breakfast for an awesome ride across the northern ridge of Mt. Kilimanjaro reaching an altitude of 6,300ft – one of the highest mountain biking routes in the world. Heading back across the mountain we stop in at the Masai village at Olpopongi, where we are hosted for a spectacular evening in the village rondavels.

    6. Day 6 Bike tour Olopopongi – Mukuru

Day six is one of the best days out with an amazing ride between Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru, with loads of chances to spot some of Africa’s incredible wildlife along the way. We make our way through to the beautiful Mukuru bush camp for that nights accommodation. Enjoy a scenic 4×4 tour through to the Arusha National park in an open top safari vehicle later that afternoon to spot the Big 5 in comfort.

    7. Day 7 Bike tour Mukuru – Moshi

The final bike tour day kicks off after breakfast. We head back along rugged paths to Mt. Kilimanjaro and onto the the warm hospitality of the Weru River lodge for a couple of ice cold “kilis” the local beer named after the mountain, to celebrate the circumnavigation of the mountain base.

    8. Day 8 Rest and Recuperation

Day eight is spent as a leisure day before heading out the following morning for the awesome 6 day trek to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro

    9. Day 9 Trek to Marangu Gate (5900 ft) – Mandara hut (8850 ft)

After breakfast we transfer through to Marangu Gate where the official trek begins. The 3 to 4 hour hike is fairly easy going on the first day and heads up through the low level walking paths of the mountain. Along the way we stop for a light pre-packed lunch and take take in the spectacular scenery around Kilimanjaro national park. We reach Marangu Hut in the late afternoon, where you can relax and enjoy a sumptuous meal prepared by the camp staff.

    10. Day 10 Trek from the Mandara hut (8850 ft) – Horombo hut (11100 ft)

The trek on day three begins early after breakfast. We make our way up through the alpine moors and the change in temperature is noticeable. We recommend a light jacket for this part of the trek. The hike takes around 6 hours to complete including a stop for lunch, with arrival at Horombo hut in the early afternoon. Arrival at Horombu is early enough for climbers to relax in camp and start getting acclimatised for the next day ascent. Dinner is served in the early evening, so those fit enough are able to summit the Mawenzi peak, located nearby, for some spectacular views.

    11. Day 11 Trek from Horombo hut (11100 ft) – Kibo hut (14100 ft)

The trek on day four heads out after breakfast and makes its way on a steep ascent into the high-alpine zone. This region is characterised by spare vegetation and an eerie rocky landscape similar to Mars.

With a few stops along the way including the packed lunch, hikers are able to determine their own capability in progressing up to the summit base of Kibo hut. We reach Kibo hut in the early afternoon to rest and acclimatise in preparation for the summit attempt the next day.

Should any hiker wish to turn back at this point then we have made provision for a mountain guide to accompany them back down the mountain to Horombu hut.

    12. Day 12 Trek from Kibo hut (14100 ft) – Summit Uhuru Peak – Horombo hut (11100 ft)

Ascent to the summit of Uhuru peak starts in the early hours of the morning with a difficult trek, in high altitude, through the mountains glaciers in the dark. We time our arrival at the summit as dawn breaks across Africa, illuminating the exhilarating view across the open Savannah.

At the summit we spend time resting and exploring the crater for an hour and a half before making the descent back down to the Kibo hut, where a prepared lunch will be waiting.

After lunch and an hours respite we continue onto the Horombu hut, having covered around 13miles over 14 hours, for some truly deserved rest for the evening.

    13. Day 13 Descent to Horombo hut (11100 ft) – Marangu Gate (5900 ft)

Day six we start the descent after breakfast heading back down to Marangu gate back through the rainforest and into the warmer climates of the Savannah. At Marangu gate we will be collected by the transfer and after a fond farewell to the Mountain, head back to the hotel.

The tour comes to a close with certificates of completion being awarded by your guide, followed by some drinks in the bar.

    14. Day 14 Airport Transfer

Transfer back to the airport will be done in the morning for departure.

If you are travelling from outside the SADC region then you will require entry visas for Tanzania.

Please check with you local immigration authority in advance.

There is no current requirement for vaccinations to enter Tanzania besides Yellow Fever. It is advisable to check with a local travel clinic prior to departure.

Mount Kilimanjaro is a serious trek and requires a high level of hiking fitness to achieve the summit.

It is advisable to do some high mountain training and lots of running/walking prior to attempting the summit.

Apart from the high altitude, no experience is required to summit Kilimanjaro, as this tour is guided from start to finish.  Kili is a fairly mild Mountaineering experience compared with its counterparts parts in the 7 Summits.
